Arroyo Gardens

Arroyo Gardens is an 88 Unit facility. It consists of a total of (60) beds for Assisted Living and (28 beds) for Dementia. It is located adjacent to the Santa Rita Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Green Valley, Arizona.

Located in the heart of the facility and linked to both the Assisted Living and the Dementia Unit is a Multipurpose Building that includes the leisurely and Wellness activities in addition to a Dining Facility and an Indoor Pool that opens up to the outdoors when the weather permits.

Flexibility for future use and adaptability influenced the design of both the Assisted Living and the Dementia units. Integration with the outdoors and handicap accessibility are also important goals for the project. Comfort, security and access to Nurse Stations were all design objectives that were integrated within the design.

The facility was designed to provide the residents with a non- Institutional and Residential Architectural Character. The building mass was broken into multiple buildings that are separated by landscape areas to provide the users with a community feel at the same time allowing for the privacy of each unit as the need arises.

Emphasizing the Front Door with a circular vehicular drop-off and the use of interesting forms at appropriate locations helped with the separation of the public and the private functions. The majority of exterior surfaces of all three buildings are stucco. Three carefully selected desert colors would be applied to the facades to make the complex more interesting as well as responding to the environment. These colors are tan for the desert floor, olive green for the color of the desert vegetations, and terra cotta for the color of the Santa Rita Mountains in the desert sun set.
